Deepak Mohanty is an Executive Director in the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) since October 2008, currently overseeing areas of financial stability and risk management. Earlier he was in charge of monetary policy, economic research and statistics. He was Senior Adviser in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and prior to that worked in various positions in economic research and was head of monetary policy department in the RBI.
Mr. Mohanty chaired several important committees. On the recommendation of one such committee, the base rate system of loan pricing for banks was introduced in July 2010. He has a number of publications in professional journals, edited two books and has delivered several speeches on macroeconomy and monetary issues. Current research interest includes monetary economics and financial stability.
Mr. Mohanty holds master’s degrees in Economics from Yale University and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
