N Jambunathan is a post-graduate in Statistics from Indian Statistical Institute and joined the Bank as a Probationary Officer in 1978. In his early years he worked as an Officer in various branches of the Bank in Andhra Pradesh / Telengana. He was selected for a posting in the Data Processing Centre, Hyderabad in 1986 and since then has held various assignments in computer related departments of the Bank at the Corporate Centre. Apart from IT he has held important assignments in Retail Banking and Payments business.
As a career banker he was the Regional Manager of one of the large regions in Kolkota for three years. He was General Manager of a retail Network of the Bank in Bhopal for two years in which role he was also a member of the Circle Credit Committees sanctioning loans upto Rs.50 crores. The Network covered over 750 branches / offices with an aggregate business of over Rs.50,000 crores. During this period Madhya Pradesh govt. became the first in the country to link the payments of all its Treasuries to the Corporate Internet Banking product of the Bank thereby facilitating seamless transfer of payments. He also actively supported the use of PCs at kiosks as opposed to mobile phone / card based technologies for financial inclusion and this has now become a standard across the industry.
In the early phase of computerisation of branches he was closely associated in both back office and front office computerisation. During his tenure as Manager (Systems) the operations of the branch was fully computerised. He was a Dy. General Manager in IT Dept in charge of electronic payments for four years during which period he was instrumental in introducing many payment products in the group for funds transfer within the country and also globally. He was also associated in the selection of Cash Management solution with primary focus on payments opportunities. As a General Manager in charge of payments solutions he was closely associated with M/s McKinsey & Co for organisational restructuring of payments business. He was closely associated with the mobile banking initiative of the Bank which as per RBI statistics was a market leader for nearly three years.
He was posted as Chief General Manager (IT) in September 2011 and after two years was elevated to the position of Dy. Managing Director & CIO. During this period a large number of major projects have been completed including migration of Communication Network to MPLS, completion of Data Warehousing, Creation of Analytics and Social Media wings, migration to a new ATM switch, Active Directory Services across the Bank, second factor bio-metric authentication for all Core Banking users, upgradation of Payment Gateway, installation of mobility digital platform and development of many applications for mobile / TAB devices, migration of Foreign Offices to new version of Finacle, etc. During this D revamping of hardware for Core and Internet Banking, restructuring of IT Dept., etc. During this period a number of awards were received by the Bank for various IT Related applications from IBA, IDRBT, Skoch etc.
